MAHANI MEZCAL

MAHANI MEZCAL

Seeking for the soul of Agave’s nectar
We went to search for the secrets of mezcal, its long-standing learnings and the essence of the Agave culture in Oaxaca, Mexico.

We entered the life of Humberto Juan Hernandes, Maestro Mezcaleros, his everyday life in San Juan Del Rio. He revealed the culture and the know-how of the agave as well as its rules of art, the legends and the philosophy of its production.

Produced in the high mountains of San Juan del Rio in Oaxaca, Mahani is an artisanal mezcal joven made from Espadin agaves that take 7 years to mature before being cultivated by hand. The Zapotec Indians work with their hearts and souls to produce this elixir of life, without electricity or artificial yeast, repeating the same gestures as their ancestors.

For millennia, Zapotec high priests and shamans have imbibed mezcal to purify body and soul. They drank it to reach a heightened state of consciousness and discover a path between reality and the ultimate human triumph: transforming themselves into their spirit animal.
